The first vet visit

Start a good relationship.

4 min read

A first checkup sets a baseline for your dog's health and lets you ask questions.

Bring

  • Any records from the shelter, rescue or breeder
  • A list of what they eat and any medications
  • Questions about vaccines, parasite prevention and spay or neuter
  • A fresh stool sample if the clinic asks

Ask about

  • Which vaccines your dog needs and when
  • Flea, tick and heartworm prevention
  • A healthy weight and how much to feed
  • What to do in an emergency after hours
